JJ Reddick has had a gloomy remorse after the LA Lakers lost the Phoenix Suns’ preseason opening game.
The Los Angeles Lakers got off to a disappointing start in the preseason, losing 103-81 to the Phoenix Suns.
Their top stars LeBron James and Luka Donsic would have expected the Lakers to perform poorly as they saw today.
Deandre Ayton was disappointed by the Lakers’ debut and scored one point. But the same goes for Lakers players at night.
After the game, Lakers head coach JJ Redick spoke about the team’s defeat and admitted that the game is a reminder of where they are during the preseason.
JJ Reddick spoke to the media after the LA Lakers’ preseason loss to the Phoenix Suns. Reddick didn’t demand a perfect game, but he was disappointed with how they played.
However, the second-year Lakers coach explained that the Phoenix Suns had a whole lot of time on the roster to prepare and train, and that the Lakers need time together to return to full form again.
“We don’t expect perfection in preseason games. There’s room for growth in these areas. Reality is no excuse.
“This is literally real (Suns) had 19 guys in the gym during September, and they did an installation similar to how they did last year.
“They had seven practices. They’re ahead of us in that respect. They have more. I felt that on the defensive side.
“They obviously have their concepts, their schemes and all of that really tight. We didn’t have enough time. We get there. I’m very confident.”
JJ Redick was right to point out the Lakers’ struggle on the defensive side, but it was their performance at the offensive end that sacrifices the game.
The Lakers shot 31.1% off the field and even worse 17.1% beyond the arc. It was a really poor filming night for the Lakers.
Outside Austin Reeves, Lakers players only looked sloppy on the offensive edge, rarely finishing their easiest chances.
Some may naively chalk performances. That’s why these preseason games are important. However, the Lakers need to deal with this shooting before it becomes an issue during the regular season.
