JJ Redick and Austin Reeves weren’t surprised to see LeBron James trolling the world with his “Second Decision” ad.
LeBron James threw the NBA world into turmoil on Monday by announcing that he would be making a “second decision” on Tuesday afternoon.
Of course, fans will remember LeBron James’ decision to leave the Cleveland Cavaliers and announce his move to the Miami Heat in 2010.
With so much speculation surrounding James’ future in the NBA, many fans wondered if King would announce his decision to retire from the NBA.
Instead, LeBron James’ “Second Decision” turned out to be an ad for the spirits brand Hennessy. And according to JJ Redick and Austin Reaves, no one should have been surprised.
Both JJ Redick and Austin Reeves were asked about LeBron James’ recent announcements and whether they were concerned about his possible retirement.
Reddick laughed it off, claiming that it was ridiculous to think this was anything but an advertisement and that they all knew it. Austin Reeves revealed that he received frantic phone calls and text messages about the incident.
JJ Reddick: “You guys are idiots. We all knew this was an ad. I’m sure you got the text message…Most people who text me also realize it could be an ad. No one panicked.”
Austin Reeves: “Yeah (about whether people texted him about LeBron). You want me to tell you more about that? I just got a few calls and I was like, ‘What is this?’
“Obviously, every time he released this song the world was on hold…People thought he might retire. I’m glad he didn’t.”
LeBron James’ latest announcement turned out to be nothing more than an ad, but there are still many questions about what he’ll do next.
James picked up his $52.6 million player option this summer, marking the first time in recent years that he and the Los Angeles Lakers did not negotiate a new contract.
This means the Lakers may not be considering James as part of their long-term future going forward. This isn’t surprising considering they currently have Luka Doncic as the franchise’s star.
The Lakers are prioritizing Doncic over James. So any roster decisions they make next year will have a lot to do with Luka and his feelings on the matter.
LeBron James will become a free agent next summer and will have the freedom to choose which team he signs with. Or you could decide you want to call this a career and retire.
