Coach JJ Redick wants Bronny James to improve this season and has tasked two players with getting the young star in shape.
The Los Angeles Lakers are looking to help Bronny James develop into his best self over the next few years.
Despite initially struggling, Bronny made an impression for the Lakers last season and really grew into his role as a two-way player.
In the summer, Bronny found further success in the NBA Summer League, performing much better than the previous year.
During the offseason, JJ Redick asked Bronny to study two-way players like Davion Mitchell and TJ McConnell. And with the Lakers, the head coach asked two stars to mentor Bronny.
After a recent Los Angeles Lakers practice session, JJ Redick spoke to reporters and was asked about players who are role models for Bronny James.
Redick was quick to recognize Marcus Smart, name Gabe Vincent as two players he talked to, and held Bronny James accountable for setting an example.
“It’s amazing, and so is Gabe. I mean, those two are studs and they were in the lead even when there was limited participation.
“They understand that’s part of their role. We’ve already talked about it in terms of leadership and they’ve both been great.” (H/T Lakers Nation)
Bronny James has improved since last year, but he’s not ready to be a part of the Los Angeles Lakers’ rotation yet.
Redick and the coaching staff will likely give him more playing time than last season, but he will still primarily play in the G League.
The G League allowed Bronny to get consistent game time and improve his play last season, and the hope is that he can do the same this year.
Hopefully, James can take a big leap forward this year and reach a level where he’s a regular in the Los Angeles Lakers’ rotation for years to come.
