Next season will be the 14th season that Stephen Curry and Draymond Green will play together for the Golden State Warriors.
In those 14 years, they won four championships and built one of the NBA’s great dynasties.
He will continue to be competitive in the 2025-26 season and lead the Warriors toward another championship.
Stephen Curry remains one of the league’s elite players despite being 37 years old, and Draymond Green remains one of the best defenders in basketball.
Interestingly, Warriors owner Joe Lacob recently admitted that he did not expect Curry and Green to maintain this level at their current ages.
He believed that in their mid-30s they experience a typical decline, especially in terms of health.
“I’ve got to be really honest here. There’s no point in trying to portray it any other way. If you asked me five, 10 years ago, I wouldn’t have expected these players to be playing and playing at this level with Steph being 37 and Dray being 35 and going to be 36 and being at this level of health,” Lacob said.
“I would have never expected that. I would have believed the odds and said it was probably not likely.
“I mean, I would have thought that Steph is a very good shooter and would still be a very effective player in the long run if he wanted to do that, but history shows that’s not the case.”
“History has shown that, in fact, in the NBA, you can decline rapidly or get injured after the age of 30. And that happens often. Recent trends have changed that view in some ways,” he added.
Even with examples like LeBron James playing past the age of 40, Lacob initially struggled to convince key players to buck the aging pattern.
“Certainly, LeBron James is great, continuing to play at this age, and Tom Brady is great in football. Medicine has changed, the way we prepare players has changed,” Lacob acknowledged.
“So I think there’s a trend, but dad time is dad time, and my honest answer to that question is I didn’t expect them to play at this level,” he concluded.
Lacob was fortunate in this unexpected development.
The continued competitiveness of Curry and Green, especially alongside star players Al Horford and Jimmy Butler under the tutelage of Steve Kerr, gives optimism to the Warriors’ championship chances.
Their continued excellence allows the Warriors to compete with younger, more talented Western Conference teams despite having one of the league’s oldest rosters.
