Brian Johnson, known as his online personality “The Liver King,” was charged with pose a terroric threat to Joe Rogan after a security team of podcasts and UFC color commentators warned police on a series of hinged videos on social media.
On Monday, MMA Fighting received a copy of the criminal charges filed against Johnson after an investigation led him to believe police were pose a legitimate threat to chase Logan.
Police were initially contacted by members of Logan’s security team after recognizing several social media posts Johnson had created. The video escalated from “many threats” to actually posting videos.
Logan’s security team asks police to intervene in the escalating nature of Johnson’s actions, potentially causing them to “potentially harm Joe Logan and his family.”
Police said in criminal charges that after watching many Johnson videos, authorities believe his actions “shows some kind of mental health episode, indicating that Brian Johnson could be dangerous to himself or to others.”
In a specific video identified by police, Johnson is seen standing shirtless wearing a fox headdress on his head. In the video, Johnson said, “Joe Logan, I’m calling you, from guy to guy, I’m choosing to fight you,” while grabbing the gun.
After watching some more videos from Johnson, I continued to pose a threat to Logan there, including one that showed me a three-hour trip from my home in Willis, Texas to Austin, Texas.
Police eventually contacted Logan himself and told authorities he was aware of Johnson’s threat from his security team. He interpreted the actions and statements as “threatening,” resulting in him submitting a police report.
Logan told police he had no contact with Johnson, so he didn’t know why social media influencers targeted him.
The veteran UFC color commentator then told police that “Brian Johnson was told there was a serious drug problem,” and based on numerous Instagram posts made about him, Johnson believes that he is “significantly unstable and needs help.”
As a result, police were accused of “discovering that Brian Johnson committed a terrorist threat against Joe Logan.” Johnson was arrested and later released on a $20,000 bond, and he was released with a restraining order that he must stay at least 200 yards from Logan, his family, and his home and business location.
Johnson was also ordered to undergo a mental health assessment within seven days of his release.
Johnson’s next court hearing is scheduled for July 16th.
