Joe Piffer hasn’t seen Kelvin Gastherm hanging in a new wave of UFC middleweight talent.
Pyfer (13-3 MMA, 4-1 UFC) will assume former interim title challenger Gastherum (18-9 MMA, 13-9 UFC) at UFC on Saturday’s ESPN 64 (ESPN2, ESPN+) main card for Arena CDMX in Mexico City.
After bouncing back from middleweight to welterweight, Gastherm declared that 185 pounds would become his permanent home. In a recent interview with MMA Junkie Radio, Gastelum told UFC Brass to go back to the title pass, but Pyfer said he doesn’t think he’ll get there.
“I think there are a lot of good people. I think CaioBorralho is very good. If you see a matchup, I don’t think if they fight, it’s going to be close,” Pyfer said. I told the MMA Junkie. “I think Kaio will dump Kelvin, so when he talks about running another title, I don’t think it’s really true. I think he’s trying to convince himself that this is home.
“But he has so many ups and downs. His performances have not happened before recently. That’s my speculation from watching movies, watching him and seeing his performance.
As Pyfer rises to the middleweight ranks, he sees Khamzat Chimaev as the most valuable first contender to face champion Dricus du Plessis.
“hE is out there and is a great champion, We’re still a great competitor and we’re still at the top of the division,” Pyfer said. “wShouldn’t you shoot Hahams? ”
But does Pyfer think Chimaev can abdicate Plessis?
“Yeah, that’s right,” Piffer said. “If he could beat him in the first two rounds, He can take him down in the first two rounds, I think he will beat him. And I think if he can survive in the first two rounds, Doricus would end him with a TKO. ”
