Joe Piffer improved his record in the octagon to 5-1 with his unanimous decision victory over Kelvin Gastherm at UFC 316 in New Jersey.
It was all “body bag” in the opening round, connected to the booming right hand, with Gastherum crashing to the canvas in just 40 seconds of scrap. Pyfer moved looking for a finish, but Gastelum survived the onslaught. Unfortunately for Gastherm, it’s not the last time he first ate a mat.
Within a minute, Pyfer unleashed another brutal right hand that had put Gastelum down. This time, Pyfer was happy to back up Gastelum and check the last few seconds from the clock.
The first was exciting, but the second stanza was combined with a serious strike of less than 30, so I wanted a lot. Pyfer kept quietly searching for one hitter kitter while Gastelum was hesitant to close the distance and land something worth noting.
Pyfer was the second most identical, as he was only interested in throwing one shot at a time. Gastherum, meanwhile, was throwing the combination and mixing his strikes into his head and body. Gastherm closed the round with some stiff shots against the fence before sending us to the scorecard.
