Punta Cana, Dominican Republic – Joel Damen played bogey-free for the second day in a row with a 6-under 66, setting a 36-hole record in the Corales Punta Cana Championship, and building a four-shot lead over the weekend on his only PGA Tour victory site.
Damen won the tournament in 2021, with another win boosted. Although he will not take him to Master next year, Damen held his PGA Tour card narrowly last year, and is worth a two-year exemption.
Stanford alumni Michael Solbjornsen, who won the card through the PGA Tour University rankings, earned a top career of 63, and was four shots behind along with Garrick Higggo (68) and Charlie Hoffman (66).
This week, Darmen, the only player on Corrales’ course without bogeys on his cards, was 16 under 128 to set a tournament record in two rounds. That’s a low career too.
It was Ben Poland who made the cut at 3 under 141. Ben Poland will defend his title next week at the PGA Pro Championship.
