In much of the first part of the 2025 MotoGP season, Johann Zarco was the best Honda rider, but not at the Spanish Grand Prix, which the French rider admitted to be a “hard weekend for me.”
The LCR Honda rider was the second Honda in the classification behind Lucamarini, but he has been struggling since Friday, picking up the pace by Joan Mir, who came in behind Zarco, but finished the crash while taking sixth place with Franco Movideli.
“A tough weekend for me,” Zarco summed up when he spoke to motogp.com after the Spanish Grand Prix.
“We were unable to improve our emotions over the weekend, which made it even worse.
“So, for Sunday, I had to do something like a reset and accept what was going on and try to catch some points.”
The LCR Honda Rider was surprised at his progress in the first corner, but failed to hold enough pace as 25 laps rolled out to hold top 10 locations and ended up in 11th place.
“The start and the first two corners were quite surprising as I went sixth from the 10th position,” he said.
“I was ready to stay there and stay at the pace, and that’s what I wanted.
“But I couldn’t keep up with the pace, the bike was slipping too much and I was losing time at the entrance to the corner. All of these issues I had over the weekend were that I couldn’t really fix and couldn’t feel much better during the long race, so I was about to finish.
“Marini is very consistent and I couldn’t pass him on the final lap. He closed the door pretty well so I couldn’t save the top 10, but at least the 11th place five points are always better than nothing.”
