John Jones was fun on social media at Tom Aspinel’s expense, but we don’t seem to be anywhere near a fight.
Earlier this week, Aspinall, interim UFC heavyweight champion in the MMA Fighting Global Rankings and number one, successfully involved Jones’ official champion in the division in “retirement,” declaring him an indisputable champion, essentially moving openly out of Jones’ fight. “Bones” went to Twitter on Thursday night to tweet Arashi, answering fan questions and expressing his opinion on Aspinall’s combat resume.
“That’s great, you can use (heavyweight champions),” Jones replied to fans who declared Aspinel as the title holder.
Unfortunately, my boy isn’t as special as his fanbase thinks he is now. I’ve seen Tom tap twice by two different people. The time will be displayed. I went today tomorrow. https://t.co/znzrekapi7

Thank you to all those who fixed me! I said Tom was submitted twice, but it turned out that it was only once…by a man who everyone calls cousin Earl. He then got another random tko’d. It’s hard to remember who did what when multiple people were involved.

“Unfortunately, my boy isn’t as special as his fanbase thinks he’s here,” Jones said of aspinel. “Tom has seen twice (end) (end) by two different people. Time will be displayed. Today is tomorrow.”
In response to fans asking Jones how to defeat Aspinel, Jones already declared that he “don’t even give him a chance” to fight him.
After layoffs of more than three years and vacating a light heavyweight title, Jones returned as a heavyweight in March 2023 when he quickly submitted a Cyril Gain at UFC 285 to win the vacant title.
Aspinall is the longest interim champion in UFC history since knocking out Sergei Pavlovich at UFC 295 in November 2023. The British Rising Star successfully defended its belt with a 60-second stop at UFC 304 by Curtis Blaydes.
Jones continued to tweet about Aspinel and his own future of battle. Unless Jones plays the mind game and messes with his fanbase, it doesn’t look like it’s rushing to get back into the competition.
I remember it like yesterday. It’s been three years since I saw someone fighting me. A mass of critics said, “Jones looks very old now, he’s too late now. His gains are too fast. Jones has never faced anyone like this.

It really has nothing to do with fear. The question I asked close friends and family is whether people like me can climb into the sport. The goal of an athlete is to build a brand, acquire that brand, become more than an athlete. With many fans… https://t.co/ufybyg0dfa

I spoke to the UFC a long time ago about what my future plans are. I’ve really not been going well since my last fight in New York City. Honestly, I think it’s UFC’s biggest concern to continue introducing me as a company champion. Not Tom.
I’ve just played that role… https://t.co/u3w6v932pu

There’s an interesting take! Shit, I’m 37 now. If I’m honest, my body hurts everywhere. Interesting Tommy Boy tells zero shit to his generation’s studs. He barely mentions their names. https://t.co/rudcrz4jcx

And remember, at this point you can’t peel a man like me. I lift the belt freely. Beni, Vidi, Vidi.

Honestly, I wouldn’t be surprised. I see this happen all the time. Fighters allow me to become their entire identity. They, on the other hand, are very focused on being a man, and the competition is lurking. The large mouth bites slightly into the butt. https://t.co/rfahnmukv

Jones also added that he had no “malicious” towards Aspinel and that he provided some advice to the interim champion.
No, honestly, I hope Tommy doesn’t take maliciousness. He is not a threat to me. He should start by trying to become the most heavyweight ever. That goal will be sufficient. If we are honest, my career is on a completely different planet. I really don’t hate other people… https://t.co/cr38sjwcc6
