The Chicago Bulls are looking to rekindle their interest in Jonathan Kuminga for the Golden State Warriors. They already wanted to get him in 2024, but they want to get him again in a year.
Jonathan Cuminga is one of the most interesting players of the Golden State Warriors. He has elite physical properties and good natural talent. However, Warriors head coach Steve Kerr appears to be his biggest fan.
Kuminga himself is an inconsistent player, but his ceiling seems to be empty. With Jimmy Butler’s arrival and subsequent contract extension, Cuminga is in a tough spot. He wants to be a starter, but he won’t get a few minutes behind Butler and Draymond Green.
The best path is trade that puts him in a good situation and provides a good package to the warrior. Unfortunately, they mostly traded him for Alex Caruso, but the Chicago Bulls sent him to Oklahoma City lightning.
Back to the 2024 trade deadline, the Bulls wanted Kuminga on their roster. He is a talented advance with elite athleticism. Kuminga is a natural scorer. But he doesn’t suit the warrior.
The talent is there, but Golden State is not a good place to make the most of his game. He can play well on the big stage, as shown in the 8-game postseason stretch in 2025. Kuminga scored 15.3 points on 48.4% from the field and 3-40%.
He barely scratches the surface, but that’s not happening while he’s with them. The Bulls are the teams that are most interested in as they are turning a year later.
Chicago gets Josh Giddy from Caruso’s trade, and his breakout shows him as a perfect fit with Cuminga.
The Bulls need to have them sign and trade happen if they want to follow up on their interests. However, there is no major movement in Cuminga as the market awaits Kevin Durant’s trade.
Desmond Bain’s trade was extraordinary as most teams were waiting for what would happen in Durant. It was an early move as Orlando Magic’s Eastern Conference rivals were trying to counter it.
Due to the potential Cuminga trade, the market must be fully open before moving. Warriors will find multiple offers as they do not want bulls and Miami fever as their sole suitors. They want to keep the options open so they can get the best possible return.
The Durant trade to Miami opens the door for Chicago to plummet and make this transaction happen. But warriors have to be patient as they are waiting for their next big hit trade. When the coast is clear, warriors can take advantage of the rise in Cuminga stocks to get the right deal.
