Jonathan Cuminga and his agents revealed what they wanted from the Golden State Warriors.
Jonathan Cuminga has not retreated his demands from the Golden State Warriors. The forward really dragged out his limited free agency.
This didn’t look great in the franchise. The Warriors paused the offseason for Kuminga, attempting to lock up the young star.
Unfortunately, the Warriors’ latest $75.2 million offer was rejected by Kuminga. But all hope may not be lost yet.
Kuminga wants player options on the contract rather than the current format of retaining team options. And now Cuminga’s agent Aaron Turner has issued an ultimatum to the Warriors.
Jonathan Cuminga’s agent Aaron Turner recently spoke with the Warriors about negotiations with the Golden State Warriors.
Turner warned that the relationship with the franchise would end when Cuminga signs a $7.9 million qualifying offer. However, if Dub is serious about keeping him, he changes the team option to Player option.
“I recently spoke with Cuminga agent Aaron Turner, who made it clear that no one wants to go to the qualifying offer route.
“Turner said that if Cuminga were to sign a one-year, $7.9 million QO, it would definitely undermine its long-term relationship with the organization.
“Treat him fairly. If that’s what’s going on now, give him a PO. If it’s about controlling the future, raise the numbers and take him with him,” Turner said.
“He confirmed that if it is changed to include player options, the current three-year, $75.2 million offer will seal the deal and become a fully acquired Kuminga.
“Turner also noted that Cuminga’s side is open to revisiting Golden State’s two-year, $45 million offer, but only if the second year is a player option rather than a team option.
Jonathan Cuminga has no offers from other teams that will create a bid war with the Golden State Warriors, but he still has a lot of leverage.
Jonathan Kuminga’s $7.9 million qualifying offer comes with a no-trade clause.
Kuminga signs his qualifying offer, a Warriors nightmare scenario, as it is helpless to use Kuminga to land better assets.
Currently, the Warriors’ best option is to acquiesce to Kuminga’s requests and offer player options in the final year of the contract.
