Rehabilitation due to Jonathan Lear’s injuries is slowly increasing.
The World Superbike Championship Rider will miss the second round of the 2025 season this weekend at Portimao.
Jonathan Lea also missed the season opener on Philip Island in Australia after crashing a few days ago on the same circuit in preseason Tests.
He suffered from multiple fractures in his leg, but his comeback still has no timeline.
His WSBK rivals gathered in Portugal this week, but Rea has made great strides by recovering by hitting the gym.
This is an improvement from his previous update, where he was limited to walking dogs using wheelchair types.
Yamaha riders posted photos on social media on their rowing machines and exercise bikes while wearing protective boots on their injured legs.
“It’s good to taste my lungs again! It’s going to be a process, but I’m motivated and working towards my goal,” Rea said.
Alongside Yamaha’s image, he said, “I’m missing this.”
With Leah’s absence at Portimao this weekend, Yamaha called out Jason O’Halloran.
Ex-KTM MotoGP rider Augusto Fernandez was set to serve as a lieutenant as part of his new role as Yamaha’s test rider. However, he was instead called to the American Motogup to replace the injured Miguel Oliveira with Pramac Yamaha.
Therefore, Yamaha has to rely on former BSB veteran O’Halloran on Rea’s Bike.
The third round of the WSBK season will be April 11-13 for Assen, with REA being the target. However, there is no guarantee that he will be able to rehabilitate his legs during that period.
If he misses Assen, it means waiting until Cremona, Italy on May 2-4.
