Jordan Ott is excited about the latest acquisition of the Phoenix Suns, a former draft pick for the Detroit Pistons.
A new era of the Phoenix Suns is beginning. After the Suns traded Kevin Durant for the Houston Rockets, they enter the reconstruction phase for the first time under owner Matt Ishvia.
The Suns hired Jordan Ott as head coach and poached him from the Cleveland Cavaliers, where he served as assistant coach.
Now, as the Sun is reaching towards a acquisition at Bradley Beal, they have to focus on their future. The Suns drafted Kaman Mallach with the 10th overall pick in the draft.
But they also operate in the free agent market. The Sands’ biggest signature to date was Mark Williams.
However, OTT has been the most vocal in praise of the former Detroit Pistons’ draft pick, which the Suns recently signed a two-way deal.
The Phoenix Suns have signed a two-way contract with former Detroit Pistons player Isaiah Liver. Livers was #42 pick in the 2021 NBA Draft.
Ott was excited by the liver signature. Because he believes the stars have this new look of Sands roster with much needed size and shooting ability. The head coach is hoping for great things from him heading to training camp.
“Isaiah brings us a shooting piece, the size of the one we’re looking for on this roster. He’s injured, but now he’s back.
“He’s in perfect health. He’s been here. I’m excited to be in training camp this summer and join the season.”
The liver was impressive during the stint with the Pistons. However, he spent the whole of last season on the sidelines and after undergoing hip surgery he was locked out for a year.
Isaiah Rivers didn’t put out the jaw drop numbers during the Detroit Pistons era, but he did his role perfectly well.
In his rookie year, he shot 42.2% beyond the arc. His numbers from his distance have since dropped for years, but his injuries and subsequent trade in wizards played a role in it.
Plus, Livers is also an active defender, stealing an average of one per game throughout his NBA career.
If Ott and Sands can develop him in the right way, he can become a useful piece for them from the bench. At 26, 26, the liver is not a young prospect who can develop into a future superstar.
However, asking him to make certain tweaks and changes will allow him to play a key role for the Suns this season.
