Spain’s Jose Maria Olazabal has been named European vice captain for the 2025 Ryder Cup, the team said Wednesday.
The 59-year-old will join forces with Captain Luke Donald to defend his title on September 26-28 at Beth Page Black in New York.
Two-time Masters champion, Olazabal, represented Europe in the Ryder Cup seven times from 1987 to 2006, and was the last captain to lead his team to victory in American soil.
“That’s great news. When Luke approached me and asked me about the possibility of becoming a vice captain again, I was honestly thinking about it for a while.
“The Ryder Cup is very close to my heart. I said yes because I have great memories of the event.”
Olazabal, who took part in 31 matches in seven Ryder Cup appearances, will take on his fifth stint as European vice captain.
