Former New York Knicks star Junior Smith gave his thoughts on the team’s situation.
The New York Knicks have a big dilemma in their hands when doing coaching searches.
So far, the Knicks have failed to try and hire a coach from their NBA rivals.
The interview took place with Taylor Jenkins and Mike Brown, with James Borego being the latest name to appear on the radar.
Are any of these upgrades to Tom Thibodeau, who was fired after leading the Knicks to the Eastern Conference Finals for the first time in 25 years?
Former star Junior Smith gave support to the idea of giving Thibodeau another call.
JR Smith spoke with WFAN at Fanatics Fest and was asked directly whether the New York Knicks should simply return to Tom Thibodeau.
He admitted that it was probably not a scenario, but Smith said this would be a plan he would actually support.
He replied: “It’s a hopeful thought. It’s difficult if a man can, it’s very difficult to come back.”
He added: “I think it would be a big move for the Knicks because I saw two coaches in my career and got fired and returned to the same organization.
“Tivs is an incredible coach, how he did a really good job with what he had.
“Knicks and Knicks fans are saying, “This will be our year,” where we’re always hoping for victory. This is the most exciting thing since 2013. ”
It’s hard to imagine the Knicks actually calling out to revive Tom Thibodeau, and it’s certainly uncertain whether he’ll accept it.
There were several reasons why Thibodeau was fired and moved, so it’s time for another coach to build on what he started.
The Knicks won 51 games last season at the Eastern Conference before losing to the Indiana Pacers.
One of the former Knicks coaches who were turned over to come back is Jeff Vanguardy, and Kendrick Perkins claims he is the “only” guy suitable to lead the team.
