Augusta, Ga. — Justin Thomas didn’t have the master he wanted.
It disappointed him and made him a bit worried about his position in the US Ryder Cup team.
Six players are automatically qualified for the team based on performance on the Ryder Cup Points list, but the remaining six spots are filled by the captain’s choice. Thomas was ranked 9th in the rankings this week.
“It’s a difficult place to get in, but that’s also self-harm,” Thomas said. “That’s a big goal for me, but I feel like I’m competing to continue doing what I’m doing, win some tournaments and start winning some tournaments and majors.
Thomas was playing the Master without his usual caddy as he was unable to get into his bag after Matt’s “Passion” Minister injured his back. He used Max Homa’s former caddy, Joe Greiner, at Augusta National.
