Justin Wetzel won a massive upset at the PFL World Tournament on Friday night, and heavily supported Russia’s outstanding Kasum Kasmov.
Much of the opening round was a front-and-back fight in the clinch where Wetzell pushed Kusamov against the fence multiple times. With less than 30 seconds left, Kasmov was finally sitting in Wetzel with a one-legged takedown, but didn’t have enough time to achieve anything on the mat.
It was the same in the second stanza, but this time it was Wetzell who scored a takedown late against his opponent. But Wetzel was able to only cover up Kasmov for a few seconds before Russia backed up.
Still, it could have been enough to raise the scorecards that would make it into the third and final round.
Wetzel again put the man on the mat on the third mat, but Kasmov quickly turned the table and shot for his own takedown. Unfortunately for Kasmov, he found himself at the bottom of an inverted north-south position, not in a dominant position.
Wetzel lowered a series of hammer fists onto Kasmov’s body, and the Russians had no choice to lie there and take it until the final bell.
Official Results:Justin Wetzell def. Kasum Kasmov (29-28, 30-27, 30-27) via unanimous decision
