The New York Knicks acquired Karl-Anthony Towns from the Minnesota Timberwolves in a trade that sent Julius Randle, Donte DiVincenzo, and a protected first-round draft pick to Minnesota.
Karl-Anthony Towns played in 72 games for the New York Knicks, averaging 24.4 points, 12.8 rebounds, and 3.1 assists. Last season, he was selected to his fifth All-Star Game.
Towns and the Knicks made it to the 2025 NBA Playoffs, but lost to the Indiana Pacers in the Eastern Conference Finals.
New York is one of the favorites to win the Eastern Conference, so Towns will try to put the Knicks over the top this season.
Towns reflected on his trade from the Timberwolves on the podcasts “The Young Man” and “The Three.”
He also talked about what makes former teammate Anthony Edwards special.
Edwards became a rising superstar in the league, leading the Minnesota Timberwolves to back-to-back Western Conference Finals appearances.
“I’m so proud to see him working so hard. I feel like a proud big brother.”
“His charisma and all that makes people lean in and listen to him.
“What keeps people in his ecosystem is his desire to be great. It’s one thing to attract fans, it’s another to keep them.
“He does it through his play. It’s his play that keeps the fans there.
“His charisma and who he is gives him the opportunity for fans to just watch his art.”
The Knicks will open the season on October 22nd against the Cleveland Cavaliers.
This could be a very early preview of the Eastern Conference Finals, as both teams are expected to win or lose this season.
The Knicks were able to make some great additions this offseason, but the sudden retirement of Malcolm Brogdon just before the start of the season was a huge loss for them.
Jalen Brunson, Towns and the rest of the Knicks’ starting five will once again be under tremendous pressure to perform.
