The Los Angeles Lakers are in a busy offseason with a focus on their latest superstars.
La Lakers has two superstars to soothe in the offseason after Luka Doncic was traded to join Lebron James at deadline.
Anthony Davis was sent to the Dallas Mavericks in exchange, and the Lakers appeared to secure a future superstar.
However, there is a bit of concern in LA, as Luka Doncic’s contract expired in 2026.
Doncic is now “fully committed” to LA, and the Lakers are able to offer him an extension from August 2025.
After the Lakers’ playoff exit, LeBron James made an unusually distant comment about Don Sic’s contract, claiming that it wasn’t up to him to postpone all responsibility and persuade him to stay with his teammates.
LeBron James’ comments have generated a strong response, with Kendrick Perkins claiming the superstar owing to the La Lakers.
He pointed out ESPN’s first method, similar to last summer, several of the many ways the Lakers stay out of the way to soothe Superstar.
Perkins included drafting LeBron’s son Bronnie James and the appointment of director JJ Reddick, but now claims it’s not time for the superstar to suddenly put responsibility.
“Yes, you have to help the Lakers. Yes, you should be a part of it,” Perkins began.
“The Lakers did everything to please LeBron James from Durbin Ham and trade important pieces to get Russell Westbrook.
“That didn’t work, you shipped Russell Westbrook, he became a scapegoat.
“You draft Bronnie James and sign up for a fully guaranteed deal. Praise for it. But you get a coach, JJ Reddick. You’ve started a podcast.
Luka Doncic is his own superstar who did not choose to sign with La Lakers, and he was traded very unexpectedly.
LeBron James is a player who has always chosen his future, from “decision” to join the Miami Heat to returning to the Cleveland Cavaliers and choosing to choose his next chapter on his future in LA in 2018.
By not letting Luka Doncic have any impact, he was simply able to give the superstar the freedom to choose LA for his winner.
It could be a sign of respect from LeBron to the player who told him to “fit” rather than “fit,” and I hope he will lead in his own way.
And while Perkins raises some valid points about what the organization has done for him, LeBron still appears to be fully committed, regardless of his attitude towards Don Sic.
