Kendrick Perkins believes the LA Clippers are making a big mistake after signing Chris Paul.
The LA Clippers have put together a very strong roster this offseason. With James Harden’s Clippers Future secured, the front office is now working on the move.
The Clippers continued to sign Brooke Lopez to be the backup center behind Ivica Zubac. But their biggest move happened just a few weeks later.
With a big shocker, the Clippers landed Norman Powell on a three-team trade, including the Miami Heat and the Utah Jazz.
However, they didn’t stop there as the Clippers signed Bradley Beal after agreeing to a deal with the Phoenix Suns.
The Clippers signed Chris Paul to the next point guard, so another guard signed it a few days later. Many fans were impressed by their moves, but Kendrick Perkins feels they are making a big mistake.
Kendrick Perkins spoke about the Clippers who appeared in ESPN’s NBA today and signed Chris Paul. He joked that the franchise’s aging roster has made them the NBA retirement home.
Perkins added that the move would not make them a candidate given the harsh nature of the West. Furthermore, their roster age will be shown when the time comes.
“Congratulations to Steve Balmer and the Los Angeles Clippers. They’ve become official to the NBA nursing home for the players.
“If you think this is trying to move the needle for the Clippers, as long as it’s a competitor, it’s not just a candidate for the title, but also a tough Western Conference.
“I got it, Chris Paul, he brings whether he’s playing, or he’s on the bench, or an extension of Ty Lou. But when I look at their roster, I see guys like Dan. Yes, he’s a guy who can defend at a high level.
“But the Clippers look old, but for me it still has problems with the wing position.
Perkins added that the Clippers have a powerful attacking unit with Chris Paul added. But even in a decent regular season campaign, are the Clippers with Paul enough to compete against lightning, nuggets or rockets?
“Officiently, they’ve got enough to put up points, and they’ll have a good regular season.
“But can they compete with Houston, OKC and others, especially when they’re competing at Western Conference, especially when they reach postseason time?”
The Clippers have a very top-heavy roster when it comes to older players. Kawhi Leonard, Bradley Beal, James Harden, Brook Lopez and Chris Paul are all over 33 years old.
This will not help the team’s health next season. This is because players are more likely to get injured and will not play most of the regular season games.
