Khalil Rountree Jr. will show off his new stolen item when he walks to the Octagon on Saturday.
Having made annoyed losses against Alex Pereira, “Warhorse” is coming back to UFC Baku’s win column and title photo. Intruding him is former 205 pound title holder Jamahal Hill.
Rountree Jr. UFC, who competed in the second consecutive main event, recently gave combat fans the first look at the design of the one-off title challenger.
In a recent interview with MMA Junkie, Rountree Jr. provided insight into the design and revealed that his love for Ty and Las Vegas had a major impact on him.
“Design inspiration brings a lot from me. I have a Sakian tattoo I received in Thailand. I wanted to express my meaning in Thailand to me, how much Muay Thai means to me, and my tattoos paying homage to my martial arts journey.
“I put some mountains in my legs representing Las Vegas. My house. I wanted me and some Vegas in my shorts, but I didn’t want slot machines and poker chips or Elvis Presley in my shorts! Travel.”
Rountree Jr. is excited to join other famous fighters wearing custom shorts
In the past, customized fight kits have been reserved for world champions and top stars within promotions, such as Israel Adesanya, Dorikas Duplesis, Leon Edwards, Dustin Poilier, Max Holloway, and Valentina Shevchenko.
So when he was given the opportunity to create his own, it was a bit of a surprise to Rountree Jr., but after more than a decade of competition within the Octagon, he feels he has won it.
“It’s mainly because it’s about champions and number one candidates usually get them,” he continued. “I think the UFC knows exactly what they’re doing. I’ve been with the UFC for 11 years. The fanbase has grown. I don’t think UFC will be going anywhere anytime soon. I think it’s a safe decision for a while.”
