Kiké Hernández’s 2025 season started wasn’t ideal.
The two-time World Series champions have cut 12 games from .103/.163/.410. Hernandez was hit in more than a third of his bats, recording 14 strikeouts in 39 at-bats.
Hernandez is hitting a lot, but when he can make contact with the ball, he is pounding them from the park. The Utility Man has hit four home runs so far this season. This is one-third of 12 home runs that hit in 2025.
“It’s not great,” Hernandez told Bill Plunkett of the Orange County Register about the start of the 2025 season. “I think it could be even worse. I could have had three singles, not three homers.”

Hernandez suffered from a stomach bug, causing vomiting, making it difficult to control solid foods. The illness has shut down Hernandez from the Los Angeles ‘ starting lineup at Opening Day.
“As I got into the season, I was in a good mood, so I started throwing a lot, and I didn’t see pitching for a week,” Hernandez said.
In addition to Hernandez, outfielder Mookie Betts was also dealing with similar illnesses. Betts lost nearly 20 pounds in recovery, hitting two go-ahead home runs and a walk-off three-run homer in 10 innings in the first game.
However, Hernandez doesn’t bounce as fast as the bet.
“When I got back to playing, I remembered that it wasn’t everyone’s Mookie Betts. Everyone couldn’t miss the two weeks of performance and it came back like nothing happened,” Hernandez said.
Despite Hernandez’s frustrating early struggles, the 33-year-old continues to become patient with himself throughout his recovery.
“When you try to understand yourself, it’s not that easy, so you’ll be patient and calm,” Hernandez said. “I’m not necessarily happy with all the swings, mistakes and pursuits. That’s something I didn’t do in spring training, so I’m trying to get back to me and not go too far.”
There’s still a long season and gives Hernandez plenty of time to change his nine seasons with the .
