Yates gave up a three-run home run to Angels catcher Logan Ohoppe before his early departure. The right-hander gave up two runs he scored in 0.1 innings.
The latest news doesn’t work out about the already exhausted bullpen and pitching staff in general. The currently have 14 pitchers on their injured list, but the latest Sasaki is roki.
The ‘ bullpen is currently leading the league innings. This is a concerning trend for teams where several pitchers are on the sidelines with injuries. Manager Dave Roberts said the current use of the bullpen is not a sustainable business model.
“It seems like a certain person – and I was able to go back to each starter, but you’re still trying to take care of their health… (BE) Beware of the innings where the bullpen is as out of place as you can and you’re trying to manage leverage and more,” Roberts said earlier this month.
“It’s definitely not, we don’t want to lead the league in the bullpen innings.”
It is unclear how serious Yates’ injuries are, but perhaps it was the reason for his poor performance on the mound on Saturday night. The right-hander has a 3.86 ERA with 31 strikeouts and has one save in 18.2 innings pitched for the this year.
Yates has signed a one-year, $13 million contract with the offseason defending champion.
