Klay Thompson will begin his second year with the Dallas Mavericks during the 2025-26 NBA season.
Following the eventful 2024-25 NBA season, the Dallas Mavericks are firing on all cylinders to bounce back next season.
Most fans are excited about the core of Anthony Davis, Kyrie Irving and Cooper Flag, but the Mavericks also live in the veteran Klay Thompson.
Thompson had an inconsistent debut season with the Mavericks after leaving the Golden State Warriors in 2024.
During the Warriors vs. Cleveland Cavaliers fight in the NBA Finals in the mid-2010s, Thompson locked the horn along with Kevin.
But fast forward to 2025, the two former rivals recently worked together in the offseason. According to Thompson’s latest Instagram post, it’s a tradition that dates back 20 years.
“It’s still crazy 20 years from now,” Thompson wrote.
Love and Thompson were not NBA teammates, but the two were once teammates on Little League baseball teams.
On the surface, Thompson seems to remember his friendship with love, but does the photograph have a deeper meaning?

The Summer of Love began with being traded by the Miami Heat. Given that Heat has decided to send K-Love to the Utah Jazz, it’s no surprise that the 2016 NBA champions are hoping for.
In fact, Love is reportedly confirmed to acquire the deal with Jazz. Since then, many have hoped to join the Los Angeles Lakers and reunite with former Cavs teammate LeBron James.
On paper it sounds like a dream of love, who has recently turned 37. But so is the move to the Mavericks.
After all, taking someone from Love’s pedigree with you can help younger players like Flag develop at a faster speed. What’s more, the arrival of the veteran certainly can cheer up the mood in the locker room.
It certainly is a shame for the Lakers if Thompson successfully adopted his love for the Mavs. But hey, Mavs decided to trade Luka Doncic for the Lakers out of nowhere.
So the 17-time NBA champion can’t really complain about the Mavericks who stole one of the rumored targets in the offseason.
