The Boston Celtics failed to defend their NBA championship last season.
The Boston Celtics were one of the favorites to win the NBA Championship in 2025, but were thwarted by the New York Knicks.
Indeed, Jayson Tatum ruptured his Achilles tendon in Game 4 of the second round. At that point, the Knicks were already leading 2-1.
Still, Tatum believes the Celtics could have made an incredible comeback by going 3-0 over their next three games. Jaylen Brown also shares Tatum’s feelings about the loss at the hands of the Knicks.
Brown stars in Season 2 of Netflix’s hit series “Starting 5.” In one episode, Brown gave his honest thoughts on the Celtics being eliminated from the playoffs by the Knicks.
“It’s part of the game and you have to accept both the good and the bad. Last year we won the championship, the duck boat and the champagne.
“This year, we could hear the insufferable Knicks fans. I don’t know how we lost overall, but we lost,” Brown said.
To be fair, Brown’s struggles, who averaged 21.3 points, 6.7 rebounds and 5.2 assists per game, were a major reason for the loss.
While the numbers are good, Brown shot 40.4 percent from the field and 28.9 percent from the 3-point line. In fact, JB shot below 40% in three of the six games in the series.
The Knicks have one of the most passionate fan bases in the NBA. Apparently, fans didn’t like Brown’s comment about losing to the Knicks in the playoffs.
As a result, fans were quick to call out the Celtics star for “X.”
“Most overrated and overpaid player in the NBA,” one fan wrote. Meanwhile, another added: “What a baby.”
A third Knicks fan said, “It’s crazy how you can’t stand us when you don’t have a left hand.”
A fourth fan added: “I’m sorry bro I folded you up like a lawn chair at an important moment.”
“Get used to it, buddy,” a fifth fan chimed in.
As fans pointed out, Brown shoots badly from the floor and let’s not forget his turnover issues. Brown committed 23 turnovers in six games, the most on either team.
