MIDDLE, Michigan — Jennifer Kupucho and Leona Maguire shot a 10-under 60 in Better Ball Play on Friday, taking a two-round lead in the Dow Championship, the only team event on the LPGA Tour.
The Solheim Cup rivals scored a total of 13 under 127 at the Midland Country Club after opening on Thursday with an alternative shot 67.
“The plan for today was to give as many opportunities as possible and try to get two opportunities in every hole,” said Maguire of Ireland. “Most of the time, we did that. It was good to start with something like I am very early on to birdies and roll the ball.”
They got a one-stroke lead over Cathy Porter and Gemma Driberg. This is the leader of the first round, which cut off the final six holes at 62, with the team playing another alternative shot round on Saturday, closing with a better ball round on Sunday.
“A lot of golf goes,” said Kupucho, the 2022 winner of American Lisette Salas. “I think we’re just staying where we are and continuing to do everything we can.”
Sarah Schulzel Alben Varena’s team (61), Manon Pawin Luthard Buzzard (61), and Jan Lu Yahui have Zhaffled (widerer than that)
“It was a great round,” Valenzuela said.
Lexi Thompson and Meghan Kang tied up to second place after opening 67, earning 65, falling to tie for the ninth at 8 under.
“The fairways and the greens and a few more putts make holes,” Thompson said. “That’s the goal.”
The defending champions ran in Yin and Gino Chitickle, one of the top five in the world rankings of women, and were under 66 and under 6.
