Dallas Mavericks star Kyrie Irving gives his flowers to the former Washington Wizards star.
Kyrie Irving is now recovering after toreting the ACL during the 2024-25 NBA season. Kai uses this time to interact with his fans.
One way Irving has found that he does is stream on Twitch. Obviously, Irving takes time to answer the questions fans have for him.
Speaking of which, the 2016 NBA champion recently spoke about the former Wizard Star John Wall in Washington.
When building a roster, finding an elite point guard is often considered one of the most important steps. After all, in many cases, the attack is carried out through that player.
Well, during the 2010 NBA Draft, the Wizard found it when he chose the wall with the number one pick in the overall pick.
Irving, who was selected as the top pick in the 2011 NBA Draft, reflects the “precedent” set by the former NBA star recently.
“Let John Wall give him his flowers. He said the precedent was everything you could want and the number one pick, being an exciting guard in the NBA,” Irving said (h/t reddit).
He added:
In the context, both Wall and Irving ranked second in their respective draft classes. However, they were ultimately chosen to be the top spot.
The NBA is a constantly changing league, and today most teams prefer to draft talented big guys like Nikola Jokic and Victor Wenbanyama.
With that in mind, Irving made a “generational” entry for him and Wall being the No. 1 pick in the back-to-back draft.
“It was a generational hold on to what we go in a row…I don’t think we’ll see it again in the best leagues in the world, with two point guards going straight to the No. 1 pick,” Irving continued.
Since they were drafted by the Eastern Conference, the Dallas Mavericks star has looked back at his fight against the Wall.
“So many great matchups against him. We are the only ones who are very competitive because our town was talking about who was better between the two of us when he returned to the house.
Today, Irving is considered one of the best security guards in the league as he re-signed Mavs on a three-year deal.
Unfortunately, the same cannot be said about Wall, as he last played in the NBA for the LA Clippers in 2023.
