Legendary Los Angeles Lakers head coach Pat Reilly is set to have a statue of himself.
Last season, La Lakers announced they had started work to immortalize former head coach Pat Riley, the current president of the Miami Heat.
Riley led the “Showtime Lakers” to a successful championship in the 1980s, forged his name in the NBA History Books.
Now that the NBA 2025-26 schedule has been confirmed, the Lakers are providing updates on the plans.
It has been set to date when La Lakers reveals the statue in honor of Pat Riley.
The Lakers announced that the statue will be announced on February 22, 2026.
Dates are important and perfectly timed. The Lakers will host the Boston Celtics to visit on the same day.
The Celtics have been the Lakers’ main rival throughout the “Showtime” era, and it’s fitting that they become enemies when a statue of Riley is presented.
The Miami Heat doesn’t have a game on the same day and eliminates conflicts of interest that could prevent Riley from attending.
Riley won four Lakers titles in 1982, 1985, 1987 and 1988. He also coached the Miami Heat in 2006 for his fifth time.
The statue of Pat Riley joins many legendary figures from the past on an equally respected team.
He will join Elgin Baylor, Kareem Abdul Jabber, Magic Johnson, Jerry West, Shaquille O’Neill and Kobe Bryant.
The Lakers also have a statue of the beloved former announcer Chick Hearn.
