The Los Angeles Lakers have given permission to Lucadon Chic, representing Slovenia at the Eurobasket tournament.
Luka Doncic is currently experiencing his first full offseason with the Los Angeles Lakers after being traded with the Dallas Mavericks.
In addition to that, Doncic will also represent his national team at the Eurobasket tournament. While many may believe this is a dangerous move, the Lakers have put together plans to keep an eye on Donsic this summer.
The Lakers have no plans to repeat Mavs’ mistakes by moving the future face of the Don Sic franchise away from the coaching staff.
With that in mind, Lakers assistant coach Greg St. Jean joined the Slovenian national team to ensure that, according to ESPN’s Dave McMenamin.
“Donsic will also be led directly by the Lakers coaching staff this summer, with Lakers assistant coach Greg St.
“Jang will be the assistant coach of the Slovenian national team, sources told ESPN.
That’s a big responsibility, but Jean is the perfect person for the job, just like he did the same at MAVS at the 2022 FIBA Eurobasket tournament.
So Jean essentially uses the same tricks to ensure that Don Sic sticks to offseason plans despite his separation from purple and gold.
Despite playing in just 28 games, Don Sic had already shown signs of his superstardom during the La Lakers 2024-25 NBA season.
After all, in these games he averaged a spectacular 28.2 points, 8.1 rebounds and 7.5 assists per game. The numbers are expected to improve as Donsic is “motivated” because of how the Lakers treated him.
“In addition, Donsic is motivated by how the Dallas Mavericks dealt with the aftermath of trade and how the Lakers season ended, and is committed to offseason training and nutrition programs, McMenamin said.
It’s important that the Lakers and Donsic are on the same page with the superstar’s looming contract expansion next season.
For now, they’re heading in the right direction as Donsic is losing weight in the offseason. Meanwhile, Mark Walter’s acquisition of Lakers gave the franchise immense financial resources.
