The Oklahoma City Thunder finally concluded the NBA Championship drought with a 4-3 victory over the Indiana Pacers.
The biggest contributor to the OKC Thunder’s success in the 2025 NBA playoffs was Shygilgauss Alexander.
But many would agree that Alex Caruso is truly a different team maker. Caruso’s championship experience with the Los Angeles Lakers certainly helped him this postseason.
To this day, La Lakers fans are pissed off with the front office for allowing veteran security guards to leave in 2021. Most Caruso loved Laker Nation, but after winning the 2025 NBA title, his post-game comment isn’t the case.
Speaking of Caruso’s first ring, he won it in purple and gold during the Covid-19-Struck 2019-20 NBA season.
Since the 2020 playoffs took place in the Orlando Bubble, many have downplayed the Lakers’ achievements due to crowd absence and the concept of home and road games.
Despite being a part of the 2019-20 Lakers, Caruso was not embarrassed to launch a subtle jab with his previous team during his post-game 7 interview.
“Yeah, now I have the real thing. No one can say anything now,” Caruso told the media. “Yeah, do you think it was much more difficult on this team because of the way the team is being built now compared to the team I had in 2020?”
Caruso went on to praise the Thunder’s performance in the postseason. The 31-year-old claimed that the organization learned through success.
It’s natural for Caruso to praise the current franchise, but Lakers fans of X were initially furious after hearing subtle jabs at the 17-time NBA champions.
It didn’t take long for Caruso’s comments to go viral. Clearly, Caruso received a large number of flaks from one of the league’s most passionate fanbase.
This makes Caruso clear things up with an X, where he tweeted. “I already had three beers, that’s ironic!”
After learning the full truth about Caruso throwing shade at the Lakers, the fanbase quickly apologised to the former security guard.
“It’s all good, we’re a bunch of people who know you’re bullying,” wrote one Lakers fan.
“I’m feeling bad right now,” the second fan admitted.
“I’m sorry,” another fan apologised.
A fourth Lakers fan said, “Yes, I know Alex. We know. Congratulations on double the champion.”
“No one can joke these days. Congratulations on your victory,” the fifth fan wrote.
At the end of the day, it’s great that Caruso cleaned the air about his comments. Otherwise, he might have been welcomed with a wave of boo-ins the next time he plays the Lakers at the crypto.com arena.
