The Los Angeles Lakers signed a transformative contract in February 2025, the largest since 2019.
In 2019, La Lakers gave up everything possible to trade for Anthony Davis of New Orleans Pelicans Sensation, who was ready for a new challenge.
Anthony Davis and LeBron James paired the La Lakers to the 2020 NBA Championship.
No further success continued. Lakers’ Jeannie Bass president admitted he regretted not keeping the team together for longer.
The Lakers had one Western Conference Final, but after 2020 they never returned to the NBA Finals when they were Anthony Davis.
From 2020-21, they were unable to even make the playoffs, and injuries limited Davis to only playing 36 games.
La Lakers ended their Anthony Davis days by signing off on the deal that sent him to the Dallas Mavericks in February 2025.
The Lakers landed in a surprising exchange of Luka Donsic, the Mavericks targeted Davis to improve their defense, and GM Nico Harrison has been a admirer for a long time.
Talking to Skip Bayless Show, Rapper Ice Cube believes it will be easy to prepare for Davis, the Lakers, to fight their injuries.
He explained:
“So when he’s on the floor, he’s definitely the top 10 player in the league, I don’t think he’s in LA.
Anthony Davis was injured while the Lakers went on to trade, highlighting his problem.
He played over 70 games for the Lakers only once. Of the 246 between the 2020-21 season, 132 appeared during the 2022-23 campaign.
Davis suffered an injury to the Dallas Mavericks in his debut and also kept another person during the play-in tournament defeat.
Ice Cube doubled concerns about Davis when discussing Dallas Mavericks’ chances for next season.
“I think Dallas got a good team, Kylie, Cooper, ads, I think it’s a good core now.
Ice Cube is a La Lakers fan and admits he was blown away by the franchise and managed to land superstar Luka Doncic.
“Surprising, shook your head that the Lakers have tried again. This is an organization that has managed to grab celebrities as far as I know.”
He acknowledges that the Timberwolves’ playoff losses have highlighted a lot of improvement, but the founder of the Big 3 Basketball League said he hadn’t had much hope for the Lakers in this year’s playoffs.
“We need more pieces. Luka is a great player. I think we still need some size. We need that size beaten on the board.”
He replied about how LeBron James and Luca Donsic played together.
“I think Luka was comfortable in Los Angeles. He didn’t have much time for Gel so I didn’t think they’d go far in the playoffs with the teams they’ve been with for years.”
