One of the most underrated academies in British football may be West Ham United’s academy. Hammer produced some exceptional players during the Premier League era, some of whom, sadly, are away from East London, but have legendary careers.
Perhaps the most well-known example is Frank Lampard, who broke through under Harry Rednap and eventually joined Chelsea and became a key player at Stamford Bridge. Rio Ferdinand is another player who came through the Hammers Academy, but he moved to Leeds and to Manchester United, where he was a key player under Irish Alex Ferguson.
Of course, there are other examples such as Jermaine Defoe, who broke through the first team at Upton Park. There is a recent talent that has come through the academy system in West Ham.
Some of West Ham’s biggest academy losses
When you think of West Ham’s academy in modern times, one player you may think of right away is Declan Rice. England International moved to Arsenal in 2023, but certainly left a mark at London Stadium.
He made 245 appearances for the club, scoring 15 goals, at which point he scored 13 assists from the defensive midfield. He also helped win the UEFA Conference League in 2023.
Another player whom people never knew were West Ham Academy players is Aiden Heaven. However, he was poached by Arsenal as a young man and now he was in Old Trafford like Ferdinand. So far, the youngsters have made two Premier League appearances.
Heaven is not just the former West Ham Academy man who is now making his trade in Manchester. Striker Divin Mubama joined Manchester City last summer, playing twice this season, scoring once against Salford City in the FA Cup.
But perhaps Anas’ most frustrating loss, Y-player in recent years, is someone else poached by Man City.
West Ham’s biggest academy loss
Over Manchester’s blue half, they lack elite talent. But previously, the sacred mucasa of West Ham is undoubtedly one of the most exciting things. He was described as “serious talent” by football analyst Ben Matinson.
In fact, Matinson also says he believes Mucasa “will play for West Ham’s first team if he were staying.” He certainly reached a very high level this season.
The Muxus city’s under 18 numbers are incredible for the term. He managed 17 goals and 21 assists in the competition for City to compete in the finals in 25 matches in the Under-18 Premier League and FA Youth Cup.
To break it down further, he found the backstage of the net 16 times, created 15 goals for his league teammates, and made only 20 appearances. In just five FA Youth Cup games, he scored an astounding six assists.
Mucasa also stands out in City in the UEFA Youth League, with his underlying numbers through Sofa Scole showing how well he played. In eight games, he averaged 1.7 key passes per game and completed 0.6 dribbling.

With West Hamshirts under the age of 18, Mucasa’s records were not as good as in the city. He manages one goal and one assist in 10 games, equivalent to a 610-minute, 6.7 full 90-minute game.
Based on his sparkling shape in the youth class at Etihad, it may not be long before he gets a chance in the ranks of Pep Guardiola’s first team. The Irons are three-time Premier League winners, always top Chelsea rally, Lampard and three-time Premier League winners, and like Lampard, face the prospect of witnessing their glow.
There is no doubt that the groping Mucasa was a real error from the hammer. His talent was clear and if he could have protected him two years ago, he could have influenced their side this season.
