Lando Norris has rejected the proposal that momentum in the Formula 1 title race has returned to his favor following his victory at the British Grand Prix.
Norris inherited the victory with Silverstone from McLaren teammate Oscar Piastri after the Australian was awarded a 10-second penalty for a safety vehicle breach.
Piastri dominated the first part of the race, but Norris was a match closer to his rivals in the Formula One title as the race progressed.
When Norris took the lead after the final round of the pit stop, he pulled away from Piastri and showed that he was a respectable winner of the British Grand Prix.
Norris is currently just eight points behind Piastri in the drivers’ championship.
However, Norris is not engrossed in recent results.
“I mean, it’s hard to say that,” Norris said at a FIA press conference. “Look, you can always classify it as momentum, etc., but I don’t think so… Yeah, I don’t know. That’s what you want to believe at the end of the day.
“I think it’s still one race at a time. Obviously, last weekend we had a good race, we had a good fight and we were looking forward to another good fight. So, he drove a very good race and I gave Oscar my credit.
“But as you know, it’s two wins, but it’s never easy. We’ve had a good fight, but you’re fighting for a hundredth and a thousand, so they’re pretty intense, exhausted.
“So, especially when you’re racing like today, it takes a lot from you. So I’ve had two good weekends and of course, I want to keep up with that momentum, but still need more consistency.
Norris on McLaren’s new suspension
One factor behind the Lando Norris’ revival is the McLaren front suspension upgrade.
It is not a performance upgrade, but is believed to have helped Norris with his sense of being behind the McLaren’s steering wheel.
Piastri continues to carry out the old specs because they feel they have no profit.
Explaining how it changed driving, Norris states: “That’s my honest opinion. It may have helped me. And when I say I’m helping, it helps me a hundredth, a thousandth, I don’t know.
“As I said in a previous interview, it was something I believed the team might give me more feelings, and I just roll it. I believe. I believe. I believe. I think this might help. It’s not a guarantee, but it may be. Yes, I won two races, with a lot of people and
“I’m all around me. I put it more than a few changes to the suspension. At the same time, I think I’d just think I could have achieved the same thing without it and went back to my previous specs. So I don’t know.
“Hopefully one day we’ll test it in a row and I might get emotions. I’m not. My emotions were good in the last few races, but I think it’s just working on trying to get better emotions and maximizing the lack of emotions in a particular field by so many improvements from the car perspective. But we’ve improved the car.”
