The 2008 “Redeem Team” is considered one of the most talented team USA sides.
Following the shocking performance in 2004, Team USA took part in the 2008 Olympics on a clear mission to dominate the tournament.
As Lebron James and Kobe Bryant were leading, Team USA achieved their goal with an 8-0 record.
Speaking of rosters, current Dallas Mavericks head coach Jason Kidd was also a member of that incredible aspect.
The members were reunited as the Redeem team was recently introduced into the Basketball Hall of Fame.
Of course, this included Kid. The Mavericks head coach made a surprising claim, as each star took turns sharing stories about the historic campaign.
“A great question. I could have been the captain (but) I was like a water boy, a boy in the towel. The clock, I kept the clock to make sure everyone was on time.
“I asked everyone what color of Gatorade they like,” Kidd said.
At the time, Kidd was a proven veteran in the NBA, and apparently Team USA benefited from his presence in the locker room.
Given that Kidd is already 35 years old and averages 1.6 points, 2.6 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game during the 2008 Olympics, it makes sense why the 2011 NBA champions thought of it.
Statistics do not tell the perfect story. Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James seems to believe this. After all, the 4X NBA champions quickly stopped Kid from making the analogy of “Waterboy.”
“Stop it, stop it, stop it, stop it, stop it… he is the only person who has lost the game in international play.
Kidd was certainly an incredible player for Team USA. He won two gold medals in his country. He had a 16-0 record at two Olympics where Kid appeared.
Overall, Kidd will show off his 61-2 record while playing for his country. It’s not perfect, but it’s still a sensational record.
