Atlanta β Everyone loves first-time winners. I especially love those who got hit in the head in so many near misses in 2 x 4 people.
Englandβs Tommy Fleetwood won his first PGA Tour victory at the Tour Championship held at East Lake Golf Club on Sunday.
Fleetwood posted a 2-under 68 in the final round, finishing under the age of 18, with a 3-stroke better than Russell Henry and Patrick Cantray.
Before Sunday, Fleetwood finished six times in the PGA Tour and finished in the top three in a dozen tournaments.
According to ESPN research, Fleetwoodβs top five finishes are the most golfers without winning the PGA Tour in the last 100 years, with his top ten of 44 being second in the last century.
βI think Iβm proud of what Iβve done before,β Fleetwood said before lifting up the FedEx Cup on Sunday to collect the $10 million winnerβs check. βIβve always been proud of my career, whether I won or not. I know I still have a long way to go and thereβs a lot of learning.
βThis wonβt change that. It really does.
Fleetwoodβs long-awaited maiden victory won a message of blessing on the world of golf and on the Sundays that follow. Below are some of the best social media reactions to Fleetwoodβs victory.
Some of the biggest stars of the sport
Tiger Woods, a 15-time major champion who won 82 times on the PGA Tour, thanked Fleetwood for his long journey to victory. Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James recently picked up golf and was watching with interest. Avid golfer, WNBA star Kate Rinklerk was pleased to see him win, called her shot, even before Fleetwood walked to Eastlakeβs first tee.
