Atlanta – Everyone loves first-time winners. I especially love those who got hit in the head in so many near misses in 2 x 4 people.

England’s Tommy Fleetwood won his first PGA Tour victory at the Tour Championship held at East Lake Golf Club on Sunday.

Fleetwood posted a 2-under 68 in the final round, finishing under the age of 18, with a 3-stroke better than Russell Henry and Patrick Cantray.

Before Sunday, Fleetwood finished six times in the PGA Tour and finished in the top three in a dozen tournaments.

According to ESPN research, Fleetwood’s top five finishes are the most golfers without winning the PGA Tour in the last 100 years, with his top ten of 44 being second in the last century.

β€œI think I’m proud of what I’ve done before,” Fleetwood said before lifting up the FedEx Cup on Sunday to collect the $10 million winner’s check. β€œI’ve always been proud of my career, whether I won or not. I know I still have a long way to go and there’s a lot of learning.

β€œThis won’t change that. It really does.

Fleetwood’s long-awaited maiden victory won a message of blessing on the world of golf and on the Sundays that follow. Below are some of the best social media reactions to Fleetwood’s victory.

Some of the biggest stars of the sport

Tiger Woods, a 15-time major champion who won 82 times on the PGA Tour, thanked Fleetwood for his long journey to victory. Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James recently picked up golf and was watching with interest. Avid golfer, WNBA star Kate Rinklerk was pleased to see him win, called her shot, even before Fleetwood walked to Eastlake’s first tee.

Your journey will remind you of the hard work, resilience and heart that will reward you. No one deserves it. congratulations @tommyfletewood1!

The world of golf is chime

It wasn’t just PGA Tour golfers who praised Fleetwood’s temperament.

European Ryder Cup captain Luke Donald must feel good for Fleetwood’s form heading for next month’s match against the Americans at Beth Page Black in Farmingdale, New York.

Justin Rose, the only other British to win the FedEx Cup in 2018, saw Fleetwood make a winning putt. When a nice guy finishes first, it’s always a good thing.

I felt this was just as good as winning on my own! I’m very happy with my man @tommyfletewood1 To withstand the unforgiving pressure cooker, his quality golf put him in during these playoffs, and there’s no more suitable champion. πŸ† pic.twitter.com/swn6xtqbnb

Beyond the sports landscape

Fleetwood’s favorite Premier League team, Everton FC, praised the much-anticipated victory. Oklahoma City Thunderguard Alex Caruso needed only one word to explain his excitement. Heysman Trophy winner Charles Woodson also held weight.
