Journalist Graham Bailey has claimed Leeds United are keen to sign a “sensational” Champions League player in the January transfer window.
Mixed Leeds injury news ahead of match against Burnley
The Whites travel to Burnley on Saturday afternoon for an important Premier League clash between the teams who were promoted last season.
Leeds manager Daniel Farke provided an injury update ahead of the game and admitted there was both good and bad news to report.
“Lucas Perry was good news. He was able to train with us for the last two weeks, so he was also able to use this international break to increase his fitness level a little bit. Of course, having been out for such a long time, he can’t be at 100 percent, but you can see that he’s getting more or less better every day, which is good news.”
“As for Willy Gnont, he won’t be available for this game as his calf problem has healed, but unfortunately he had to take advantage of international leave due to a minor hernia operation, so it’s not a big deal, but it had to be done. He’s going back to team training next week, so we expect him to be available then. He’ll probably already be in the next home game on Friday night, but he’ll definitely not be available for this away trip.”
“Very positive and good news was Daniel James. Kudos also to our medical department and rehabilitation coaches because his rehabilitation is progressing a little ahead of schedule. I would say he was already involved in a major part of the team’s training this week, but he is definitely not in contention for a starting lineup. Noah Okafor has also been struggling a bit with an adductor issue and could potentially even compete for international selection. So we didn’t expect this.”
Apart from the injury news, Leeds continue to look at potential new signings, with an exciting attacking player listed as an option.
Leeds have Champions League ace on their ‘radar’
talk to leeds united newsBailey claimed Leeds are targeting a potential move for Bodo/Glimt winger Jens Petter Hauge in January.
“One of the names they like is Jens Petter Hauge. He’s on the radar. Red Bulls were eyeing him, so he’s a player Leeds were eyeing too.”
Hauge stands out as a very exciting option for Leeds, with scout Jacek Kulig once calling him a “sensational” player who always stood out as a youngster with huge potential.
The 13-cap Norwegian international, now 26, has proven to be a top-flight player, scoring two goals in as many appearances in the Champions League and six goals in the Europa League.
Hauge is capable of playing on both wings and as an attacking midfielder, but is primarily a left-sided player and could add significant quality to Leeds’ attack midway through the season.
