Leeds United’s hopes to secure an automatic promotion to the Premier League this week have been hit with the club falling from 1st to 3rd in the championship rankings.
A single point separates them from second-placed Sheffield United, with Burnley sitting slightly ahead at the summit.
With only six fixtures remaining in the regular season, all games have considerable weight on white bids to regain the top two spots.
Despite the ongoing fight for promotion, Leeds is already preparing for the summer transfer period.
Whether Leeds are returning to the Premier League or facing another year in the Championship, strengthening their team remains a clear priority for the club’s hierarchy.
One potential enhancement is Nigerian International Zaidu Sanusi, currently publishing a book at Portuguese giant FC Porto.
Zaidu Sanusi linked to Summer Switch and Leeds
According to African Foot, Leeds is discussing the potential deal in Nigeria international with the Portuguese giant.
The proposed transaction includes a four-year agreement that runs through 2029 and is said to include an estimated regional transfer fee of £1.75 million.
Importantly, both players and Porto are reportedly open to travel, which is reportedly worth keeping watch as summer windows approach.
Zaidu, previously wanted by West Ham, began his journey in Portuguese football with Gil Vicente in 2016, and later gained valuable experience with a loan spell at SC Mirandera.
His outstanding performance at CD Santa Clara won the transition to FC Porto in 2020.
However, the Nigerian fullback has endured difficult spells over the past year. A serious cruciate ligament injury ruled out him for most of last season.
He then returned to full fitness, but Zaidu struggled with game time, finding himself on the bench frequently, having only made eight appearances in his current campaign.
Zaidu brings a top-level experience and Champions League pedigree, but his recent history of injury and lack of match keenness raises legitimate concerns about whether he is suited to the Leeds side that chases the promotion.
For now, Leeds United’s immediate focus must remain on the pitch. With six important games still remaining, regaining spots in automatic promotion locations will be your number one priority.
But if the club secures a return to the Premier League, or even if it lacks, Zaidu Sanusi’s move could be one of the early stories of summer rebuilding.
