Reports say Leeds United are now about to sign a popular midfielder that is “undoubtedly” world-class.
Leeds is looking to improve its mid-range options
Leeds is in the market for attacking midfielders, with options being strengthened primarily in more defensive areas up to this point, with Leicester City’s Viral Elkannas coming as a target and meetings will be held soon.
Already bringing in Sean Longstaff and Anton Stuck this summer and strengthening them in the deeper midfield area may no longer be a priority for Daniel Fark, but there may be room for another addition to that area on the pitch.
This reveals Leeds is one of many Premier League clubs in the race to sign Juventus midfielder Douglas Lewis, who was made available for transfers this summer, according to a catch-offside report.
However, the Italian club is aiming to receive 40 million euros (£35 million) amid widespread interest in Lewis’ signatures, including Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur, Everton and West Ham United.
Nottingham Forest is believed to lead the race for the former Aston Villaman, and there are indications that his representative may be eager to return to the UK, turning down an approach from the Turkish side of Fenerbafe.
Luiz will sign a statement from Leeds
When the Brazilian arrived in Juventus, he received high praise from ESPN’s Leonardo Bertozzi. “Douglas Lewis’ world class? Definitely yes, Douglas Lewis is craving for a Big Premier League club and would have played for Guardiola and City if he had received his work permit before.
“At the national team level, he will be one of the key names for the 2026 World Cup.”
The 27-year-old also has a track record of successful Premier League successes, working very well in the 2023-24 campaign, showing that he could become a real difference maker in the fight for Leeds to avoid relegation.
That said, given the interest from some of the top clubs, winning the Lewis signed race can be very difficult. It is also more important that Leeds strengthen it in already attacking areas.
