Leeds want to remain in the Premier League for many years to come and to do that they need to act smartly, not only on the pitch but also off it. So far, transfer business is looking good since returning to England’s top flight, but this will need to continue if they are to avoid falling back into the Championship.
Just as much as player signings are needed for Daniel Farke’s side to be strong enough to avoid relegation, PSR also needs sales. Very little money was brought in over the summer, but a significant amount is set to arrive at Elland Road before the end of the season.
Leeds are set to pay £37m to sell Raphinha in 2022
According to Cule Mania (via Leeds Press), Leeds will receive the remaining funds from Raphinha’s move to Barcelona three years ago. Back in the summer of 2022, the La Liga giants agreed a £58 million deal to sign the Brazilian winger, who has recently been linked with a return to the Premier League. But they still haven’t paid anything close to that amount.
So far, Leeds have only received £21m from Barcelona, but reports suggest they will receive the remaining £37m by the end of the season. This means that this money could be used in next summer’s transfer window, depending on which league the club is in.
This incoming £37 million will be a huge help to Leeds, who need to start battling PSR next summer. This funding will ensure that there will be no problems until at least 2026, and the club could potentially be able to make all the signings they want when the time comes.
