Leeds United defender Isaac Schmidt hints that he can continue with the English club beyond the season.
The defender joined Leeds during the summer transfer, but he failed to establish himself as a player for the club. There were rumours that he was an option for the Leeds team and could aim to leave at the end of the season.
However, the Swiss international defender revealed in an interview with Brick that he could be open to staying in Leeds.
The 25-year-old has a long-term contract with the club, and it is still unclear whether the whites are ready to keep him at the club. He could potentially become a useful team player for them next season. Leeds will need a bigger team to do well in the Premier League.
Isaac Schmidt of Leeds’ Future
The defender believes he has improved since his move to the English club, despite not playing regularly.
“I thought about it, but I just arrived and had to adapt, and I realized I was making progress. Without playing, I could feel that I was steadily progressing,” he said.
“I know. I’m open to anything. But in Leeds, the Premier League, it’s a unique experience. Of course, it’s a dream. I didn’t have a favorite club in the Premier League… I’m in Leeds now!”
Can he establish himself as a starter?
It remains to be seen whether he will be able to force his path into the starting lineup for next season. There’s no reason he manages to impress his training and can’t convince Daniel Fark to give him more opportunities during the preseason.
Leeds will be desperate to establish themselves as a regular in the Premier League and need to head into a new season with a quality team.
