Leon Edwards responded to rumors that he might go to UFC London with a staphylococcal infection.
On Saturday, the former welterweight champion will return to the octagon for the first time since surrendering his 170-pound crown to Beral Muhammad last year. It is Fifth-ranked contender Sean Brady who will meet “Rocky” in the evening main event at the iconic O2 Arena.
Ahead of his highly anticipated return, a photo of his British fan favorite training at the gym raised concerns when Edwards appears to have a rather nasty staphylococcal infection just below his right elbow.
When she appeared on UFC London Media Day on Wednesday, Edwards was asked about the photos. “Rocky” reveals that he appears to have some type of infection, but refuses to confirm whether it is a grape. Anyway, Edwards revealed that he had already gone through a round of antibiotics to treat the infection, and that it never affected his training camp.
“I actually had it, this was about six weeks ago,” Edwards said. “I took antibiotics. It’s gone. I didn’t have the effect of my heart, I was fine. I don’t even know if it’s a bite or not.
Leon Edwards could be one victory from another crack in UFC Gold
Despite facing Muhammad in UFC 304, “Rocky” still sits on the list of welterweight contenders and gets another crack at the top prize in the category, he potentially brings one solid victory.
But that one victory must oppose a man who has only been lost once in his entire MMA career.
Sean Brady sits on a solid 7-1 record in the octagon and boards the “Big Smoke” with big wins over Kelvin Gastherm and Gilbert Burns on his final two outings.
