Lewis Hamilton was encouraged by Ferrari’s performance at the F1 British Grand Prix, despite not introducing new upgrades in Silverstone.

Both Ferraris were in the top three in their second practice at the British Grand Prix.

Charles Leclerc was just over 0.2 seconds after Rand Norris’ top time, with Hamilton still further a tenth of his pace.

Hamilton quickly looked comfortable behind the wheels of the SF-25.

The 40-year-old has a surprising record with Silverstone over the years, winning nine times.

Even during his difficult final season with Mercedes, Hamilton was ahead of Max Verstappen with an emotional return to the top step on the podium.

Hamilton continues to be performed by his teammate Leclerc, but he feels he is making progress.

“It was a really good day. It was great to see the crowd. It’s great to be on track here with a Ferrari in Silverstone,” Hamilton said.

“It’s really incredible and considering that Red Bull and McLaren are upgrading and we’re still in the mix, it’s really positive that we’re still in the mix.

“I’ve made a lot of progress now with the car. I’m more comfortable knowing where it should be. With P2, I don’t think we were anywhere we needed yet, but we know what changes we’ll need for the next session.”

Does Hamilton dream of big results?

If the driver can be delivered on Silverstone, it’s Lewis Hamilton.

He has nine victories over his name and has won 14 podiums at the British Grand Prix.

Hamilton’s biggest Formula One victory undoubtedly arrived in 2008, winning Silverstone in dangerous situations over a minute.

Hamilton admitted that he dreamed of a groundbreaking result while searching for the podium for Ferrari’s first Grand Prix.

“I definitely feel like I can dream of having a strong weekend,” he added.

“It’s another thing to do everything and extract it all together, and we’ll do our best to get the best results.

“It could rain tomorrow and I think it’s raining on Sunday too. We need to work hard to make sure we’re ready.”
