Lewis Hamilton revealed that his changes to his engineering team were made prior to the Belgian Grand Prix.
Seven-time world champion Hamilton produced a rechargeable comeback drive in Belgium.
Until the race, Hamilton ended up forgetting and enduring the weekend, being eliminated in the first part of qualifying for the second day in a row, failing to score in the sprint race.
Hamilton revealed that there will be a new performance engineer who will work with race engineer Riccard Adami, indicating that he was the person who worked with “the previous team” that hinted at Mercedes.
“It’s not easy to switch engineers in the middle of the season, but actually with me, not in that position, but someone I actually was with (and) with (and) I knew (and) anyone else,” Hamilton said after Sunday’s race.
“So we’re used to each other and need to learn very quickly. I think the changes we had really caught both of us (against the car this weekend), but I think we did an amazing job overnight.
Neither Hamilton nor Ferrari provided details about who the new performance engineer was.
Hamilton says Belgian Grand Prix “What to put behind me”
Hamilton denounced the combination of new components and brake issues in the sprint qualifying spin, knocking him down to 18th place on the grid in the sprint race.
Ferrari brought the revised rear suspension to the spa, and Hamilton admitted that he adapted the package faster as teammate Charles Leclerc took third place at the Main Grand Prix.
“Obviously, there are basically two elements in the upgrade we have,” explained Hamilton.
“One of these elements had to be tested in Montreal, but I didn’t end up testing it. Charles did. He used some of it in a few races.
“So he definitely did an amazing job. He feels more comfortable and adapted. For me, it was the first time I’d used it.
“There are engineer changes too. We’re both basically at the deep edge. And I think we did a really good job overnight to fix and tweak some of those tweaks.
“It was great to drive the car today, so I had so much fun going my own way.”
Hamilton added:
“I learned more about cars today, I tweaked it, and next week I’ll set it up better.
“I’m at the factory on Wednesday. Yeah, I don’t know why we can’t move forward with better results.”
