Lewis Hamilton held talks with Ferrari following his disagreement over strategy at the Austrian Grand Prix.
Seven-time world champion Hamilton was comparable to Ferrari’s best Grand Prix results this season, finishing in Spielberg for fourth place in teammate Charles Leclerc.
However, Hamilton appears to be unhappy with the timing of his second pit stop, begging Ferrari to “I don’t want to stop.” The demands of the 40-year-old Briton fell into deaf ears, and he eventually stopped following the request.
Speaking to media including Crash.Net ahead of the F1 British Grand Prix, Hamilton revealed that he wanted to take more strategic risks with Ferrari.
Asked if he had discussed with Ferrari following the race in Austria, Hamilton replied. “yes.
“I mentioned it after the race and then we had time to look back on it. I think the team’s view was to make sure they secure a third and fourth.
“In that scenario, they had us exactly with the same strategy. I think we both got medium, hard, medium. I did medium, medium, hard so at least it was offset at the end. I don’t want to do the same thing with my teammates.
“In that last stint, for example, we weren’t under pressure from the car behind us. They said, ‘You’d be overtaken by Charles in the end.’ I said, “Well, maybe there was a safe car.”
“I said I didn’t want to get to where I’m ignoring you, so what we’re doing is working on communication. We still get to know each other and how we run it, and it’s understood.”
Hamilton prays for the “magic” silverstone
This weekend marks Hamilton’s first home race at Silverstone since joining Ferrari.
Last year, Hamilton claimed an emotional ninth British Grand Prix victory, ending a 945-day winning streak without a victory.
Amid a disappointing start to his life at Ferrari, Hamilton was unable to finish in the top three in the 10th round for the first time in his Formula 1 career.
Hamilton was asked if he wanted silverstone “magic” or rainy weather to enhance his chances.
“In the sense that the crowd is incredible, I really don’t expect it. It’s a very special place and always offers special races. But I hope that all sorts of things can help us, if the weather is good.
“I’m not really looking at those statistics or things, so that’s not something that affects me or what I’m thinking. Of course, we’re in Silverstone. That’s the perfect place to change that. That’s what we’re working on.”
