Bantamweight prospect Lewis McGrillen has filed another big victory in the PFL Europe 1 joint main event on Saturday, submitting 37-game veteran Alan Philpot.
McGrillen came out giving the impression of his best clay Guida and quickly took the center of the smart cage. Despite his enthusiastic pace, it was Philpot who seemed to have taken advantage of his boxing and smooth counter strike to land a better strike.
It was only seconds to go to the opening round, with Philpot shooting for a takedown and perhaps trying to shake the scorecard in a favor, but McGrillen quickly reversed his position, taking Fillpot’s back and locking it into the body triangle for the rest of the round.
In the second stanza, McGrillen was blown up with a head kick in the opening minute. He seemed to eat it, but it didn’t take long for him to shoot for his own takedown attempt. McGrillen took Fillpot to the mat and resumed where he had left off first, then took his opponent’s back and slapped the triangle on his body.
Philpot went his way, landing his second takedown battle, and quickly moved to side control. However, it didn’t take long for McGrillen to scramble his path and take Philpot’s back again. However, this time McGrillen decided to get a finish.
He does just that, tightening the naked choke in the back that Philpot forced him to tap out in the second stanza.
Official Results:Lewis McGrillen def. Alan Philpott through 3:17 round 2 submission (rear choke).
