The winner of Julianna Pena vs. Kayla Harrison may have much more problems in their hands. The problem with the name Amanda Nunes.
On Friday, Pena and Harrison won center stage at the UFC 316 press conference. Needless to say, things quickly escalated between the two bantamweight stars.
But what was as much fun as seeing Miami’s “Venezuela Vixen” and two oral Olympic gold medalists saw Spur verbally was Amanda Nunez who stole the show without a word. When Dana White was asked if “The Lioness” would fight in the UFC again, the camera quickly panned to Nunes.
Amanda Nunez has both Juliana Pena and Kayla Harrison’s history
With Pena vs. Harrison finally booked, Nunes’ impending return to the Octagon has all its meaning in the world, regardless of who’s on top.
Of course, Nunes has a history with Pena, and went to the toes twice in the Octagon with “Venezuela Vixen.” For the first time, Pena achieved perhaps the biggest upset in UFC history, submitting Nunes via a choke in the rear of the UFC 277.
Eight months later, Nunes forced him to revenge, slamming Pena for 25 minutes, highlighting the title.
And Kera Harrison, who has a history with Nunes, is training with “Liones” in the top team in the US.
Given their status as two of the best female fighters of all time, Harrison vs. Nunes is the biggest battle in the history of mixed women’s martial arts, and the UFC Brass would prefer to book later this year.
