When the British and Ireland Lions defeated the World Champion South Africa

Relive the famous 1997 British and Irish Lions tour against South Africa’s Rugby World Cup champions.

The task facing Andy Farrell is to lead the Lions to their second Tour victory in almost 30 years.

That summer, Warren Gatland’s team won a 2-1 series victory. However, the two subsequent lion sides struggle to reach the same height.

The 2017 New Zealand tour ended with tie, with the All Blacks and Lions each won Test before a 16-16 draw in Auckland’s final match.

South Africa’s 2021 tour under the shadow of Covid was off to a bright start with the Lions enjoying a 22-17 victory, with Springbok getting off to a bright start just for the next two Tests and Seyer to film.

Recent Tours:

2021 – South Africa (2-1 defeat)
2017 – Against New Zealand (1-1-1 draw)
2013 – vs. Australia (2-1 victory)
2009 – South Africa (2-1 defeat)
2005 – Against New Zealand (3-0 loss)
2001 – vs. Australia (2-1 defeat)

When the Lions ended their 16-year winning streak and Australia

Relive the winning tour of the Australian UK and Ireland’s Lions, where the team has won their first series since 1997.

The Lions won 2-1 in 2013, winning the first series of three tours over Warren Gatland as coach. The Lions defeated the Wallabies in Brisbane, but Australia only cut off the four-sided 201 from the Melbourne series a week later.

However, tourists did their best in the end, with the Lions in full control of Sydney’s Wallabies 41-16, which resulted in an end to Robby Deans’ six-year tenure as Australia’s coach.

Otherwise, the Lions won all but one of the tour games, and other defeats against the ACT Brumbies in Canberra.

What is Wallabys form heading into the series?

Things wouldn’t have been that bad for Australia after the 2023 Rugby World Cup flop. However, the Wallabies were able to climb from the International Deep By under Kiwi Joe Schmidt, leading them to a 6-7 record in 2024.

Schmidt cast widenets at the start of the season, then bloodied over 19 Test debut tantos. The final outing in 2024 was a loss for Ireland in Dublin, but the Wallabies had shown they were enough to suggest that their three-time Test series with the Lions were anything but the obvious conclusion. The final victory in the UK at Australia’s Twickenham brought this belief back to Australia’s rugby.

Australia has one warm-up game in July with Fiji in Newcastle. 6, before the first test with the lion.

Who is on the Lions team?

Coach Andy Farrell nominated a team of 38 players at London’s O2 Arena, while Malo Itsje was captain of the 2025 Lions. There was an interesting call. Henry Pollock was included, but there were no locations for Owen Farrell, Sam Prendagast, Darcy Graham, Tom Jordan, Jamie George, or George Ford.

There were also a few injuries absent. Caelan Doris was not selected due to serious shoulder problems, but Zander Fagerson had to drop out as he would not recover from the calf problem.

Who is at Wallabies Squad?

Schmidt checks out his Wallabies squad to face the Lions after Australia faces Fiji in July. 6. However, it is unlikely that too many changes will be too many, except for a few injuries, from the group of 36 who gathered to compete with the Pacific Islanders.

Kiwi supported his young playmaking trio, rejecting the recall call for James O’Connor and Bernard Foley in the process, and only two players were included in winger Corey Tour and backlower Nick Champion Decressinny.
