The LIV Golf League will change the format of the season-ending team championship, eliminating the first round by top seed, and adding two lowest seed play-in matches.
The changes will take place at the team championships this season, scheduled for August 22-24 at St. John’s Resort in Plymouth, Michigan.
“I think we’ll see some teams being knocked out that you might not expect,” said Ripper GC captain Cameron Smith, who won last year’s team title.
After the LIV Golf Tournament held in Westfield, Indiana, August 15-17, the teams 12th and 13th in points rank will face off in play-in matches.
The team that scores two points wins the match and advances to the quarterfinals. The lost team will be eliminated.
All golfers from the remaining 12 teams will compete in the game play on Friday and Saturday and in the stroke play finale on Sunday.
“More pressure,” said Crushers GC captain Bryson Deccanbeau. “Everyday is even more important.”
