Liverpool is the 2024/25 Premier League champion. Their comprehensive victory over Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield on Sunday won their 20th league title in the UK.

Liverpool, who only need points to get past the finish line, were widely expected to do so, but they were hit with an early shock as former striker Dominique Solanke hit first for the Spurs in the 12th minute. However, the hosts provided quick responses, and Lewis Diaz equalised just four minutes later. The Alexis Mac Allister rockets completely turned the scoreline in the 24th minute, and Cody Gakpo was 3-1 after 10 minutes. Mohamed Salah scored the 28th Premier League goal of the season on the 63rd, forcing Spurs Defender Destiny Udogie to lead the ball into his own net and set the final score in 69th.

Liverpool boss Arne Slot had no defender Joe Gomez and midfielder Tyler Morton yet through injuries.

With Allison in goal, centre backs Virgil van Dik and Ibrahima Conate had Andy Robertson on the left and Trent Alexander Arnold on the right. The regular trio of Rien Graygun Bellch, McAlistair and Dominik Sobo Shurei covered the middle of the park, with Diaz attacking the middle, with Gakupo on the left and Sarah on the right.

As for the Spurs, they had no service from their son Hyun Min and defender Radu Dragsin in the attack.

Coach Ange Postecoglou also rolled out the team in a 4-3-3 form, with Guglielmo Vicario rolling out the backline between the posts and Ben Davies and Kevin Danso centre-backs, left-handed Udogie and Djed Spence. Archie Gray was tasked with pinning the midfield where Lucas Bergval and James Madison joined there. In the attack, Mattis Tell and Brennan Johnson were adjacent to Solanke.

Match Summary

Pushed by a passionate crowd, Liverpool got off to a vibrant start, with Gakupo almost opening the score with an early overhead kick.

But they retreated in the 12th minute when Solanke led Madison’s corner past Allison to the highest point, threatening to ruin the day for pregnant housing advocates.

Luckily for the hosts, they calmed the nerves after just four minutes, with Diaz tapping from the Szoboszlai Square Pass. The goal was not banned at first, but was given after the VAR check showed the Hungarians were onside in the buildup.

The Mac Allister quickly added to the excitement, firing a fantastic left footed shot from the edge of the area after the ball broke from the challenge.

The half-time interval helped Liverpool regain control as they completely neutralised the Spurs’ threat in the second half, while adopting a more cautious offensive approach.

Nevertheless, they still pose a danger and grabbed the fourth as Szoboszlai led the break that ended with Sara cutting inside and excavating a low shot past Guglielmo Viario.

Sarah was later denied a second goal when Udogie reached Trent Alexander Arnold Cross just before him, but the home fans were barely worried as they celebrated their fifth strike.

Powerful Mac Allister Impact, Salah is still the best

Sarah has scored an incredible number of offenses, with 28 goals and 18 assists in 34 league matches, making it unlikely that Mac Allister will win Liverpool’s “Player of the Season” award.

However, no one in Anfield’s dressing room denys that Argentina’s World Cup winner is the heartbeat of the aspect that won this title.

The ball standout – he won more tackles (4) and duels (7) than any other player – and as shown by his great goal, the Mac Allister is truly an exceptional all-around.

It was fitting that he enjoyed a big moment in this important match that he received enthusiastic applause when he gave way to Darwin Nunes.

However, there is only one winner in that race. Sara has already broken most goals and assist records ever combined in the 38-game Premier League season, and he will only need to add two to the 46 tally to break the overall record on top flights in English.

At 32 years old, the Egyptians show no signs of slowing down. His recently signed contract extension brought an understandable joy to everyone linked to the club.

Meanwhile, the idea that Liverpool needs to plan a Sarah-free future is undoubtedly in the hearts of the club’s hierarchy and slots, as it is difficult to handle at this point, but the 26-year-old Mac Allister is the player who will perform at the highest level for years to come.

Klopp’s heritage lives in Liverpool

At this point, it’s hard to believe that when Jurgen Klopp was in charge at Liverpool almost a decade ago, they had to fight hard to qualify for European competition. The Premier League title was nothing more than a dream. Because rival fans often reminded them of the Reds with sleazy chants from the stands.

It was the charismatic Germans who turned that around and led the team to Champions League glory in 2019. It was he who gradually built a squad worthy of the club’s historic status.

So it was perfect for slots to show great affection and respect after the game. I gave him the same tribute that Klopp gave him after his final match on 2023/24.

Spurs’ final chance to save the season

Following on weekend fixtures, the Spurs sat 16th at the Premier League table with just 37 points from 34 games, not due to a disastrous return to the UK’s top flights of Ipswichtown, Leicester City and Southampton.

It is worth pointing out that the people of North London endured extremely bad luck with injuries, but still does not provide an excuse for their current position.

Post-Cogl’s men showed some resilience in the first half at Anfield, but their decline after the break could certainly be placed in a lack of motivation in the domestic scene as they prepare to face Bodeau/Grimt in the Europa League semi-finals. This is your last chance to save the season. If you win the trophy, you will book a location in the Champions League next season. It is still not yet seen whether Postecoglou is there to guide them.
